Trade delegation led by commerce minister to visit Brazil to promote pharma trade on June 6

A trade delegation led by Anand Sharma, Union Minister for Commerce & Industry, is expected to visit Brazil during June 6 - 8, 2012 to hold bilateral meetings for promoting pharmaceutical trade between the two countries.

Apart from other trade engagements, India and Brazil have identified pharmaceuticals sector as one the most potential business development sectors. In this regard both the countries are expected to sign on bilateral agreements especially with regard to registration procedures, regulatory aspects and possibilities of Joint Ventures etc.

The proposed Indo-Brazil CEO's forum is also scheduled on the sidelines of the meeting. K K Sinha, AEA, DIPP will be coordinating the meeting of the CEO's Forum. Earlier, the commerce ministry’s visit was scheduled during the last week of May, but because of certain unavoidable circumstances, the visit has been postponed to first week of June.

In view of this, the commerce ministry is planning to finalize the names for the delegates list. J S Deepak, joint secretary and Mridul Jain, joint secretary, Ministry of Commerce are some of the top senior government officials among the delegates. In addition to this, CEO’s and Captains of Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology Industry have also been invited to become part of the delegation to Brazil.

“Latest by May 25, all the CEO’s, MD’s and Industry captions of all Pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry are requested to send in their consent for forwarding them to the ministry’s office for finalizing the delegates list,” said Raghuveer Kini, executive director (ED), Pharmexcil.

“This is the right opportunity for our industry players to become part of the visiting delegation and to put forth their concerns with regard to regulatory procedures. At the same time this visit will also give a first hand experience for our industry leaders to understand the market needs of Brazil. This will help us to develop a long term business relationship with the country,” stated Dr P V Appaji, director general, Pharmexcil.
